The Anti Bullying assembly focuses upon key facts that have been taken from the 2016 Anti Bullying survey. It opens on a video that centers around cyber bullying and the impact that this can have. It them moves onto key facts taken from the survey that will be quite shocking such as 50% of students said that they had been bullied at some point during their school life and also that 19% of the 8550 students who took the survey are bullied on several occasions during a school week. The assembly then focuses on what we can do as a community to challenge bullying and finishes with a recent advert anti bullying advert that uses a rock, paper and scissors fort where the scissors protects the paper, the paper protects the rock and the rock protects the scissors. This advert recently won an Oscar and is very powerful.

The focus of this assembly is about perseverance. The first clip is taken from the film 'Catch me if you can'. It takes a scene where someone describes two mice falling into a bucket of milk. Once drowns but the other tries so hard to get out that it churns the milk into butter and walks out the bucket. The next clip is taken from 'Educating Yorkshire'. It shows a young man with a speech impediment trying to talk through some work and getting frustrated. The next clip is one of him speaking in the Year 11 leavers assembly. The next section shows Andy Murray getting upset after losing the Wimbledon final followed by the moment he won Wimbledon the following year. I then go on to talk about how in these situations both people went on to be successful by not giving up and persevering with the challenges ahead of them. This then links in to the challenges that the students will face this academic year. The assembly finishes with a quote by Gary Player who once said “It's funny but the more I practice, the luckier I get.”

The assembly is based around a fixed and growth mind set. It uses a series of clips taken from I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here from a couple of years ago when Helen Flannigan was voted to do a number of Bush Tucker Trails. The first two clips show here saying that 'she isn't feeling this today' and then quits before really having a go. The next clip shows here saying that she is going 'to give it her very best' and she completes the trial gaining all of the stars. The message is about approaching a task with a positive mindset. I then list the challenges that each Key Stage will face during the academic year and the importance of being positive and giving everything 100% effort.

This assembly focuses on the issue of bullying in schools. I used the situation taken from I'm a celebrity Ge Me Out Of Here last year when Jimmy Bullard made a series of nasty comments towards his 'friend' Jake Quickenden. The theme is based around the question 'is banter actually a form of bullying?' The opening part of this assembly requires a banana and a roll of selotape. I open then banana and ask someone to selotape it back together. The intial message is once you have done or said something to someone, you can try to fix it or put it right but often, that relationship may never be the same. Just like the selotaped banana!

The assembly is centred around students finding a way to motivate them self and tapping into this to work hard in school. The first section of the video is a short funny video about a student who procrastinates for an entire day, making excuses to do silly tasks so that he does not have to revise. My starter here is that I believe that some of the students in my house are very similar when it comes to their won work or revision. I then define motivation and talk about some of the challenges that students will face shortly that will require motivation to succeed. Examples include their exams, finding a job, their driving test etc. The next section of the assembly is another short video that takes clips from movies with inspirational quotes. Threaded throughout this video are extracts from a motivational American speaker called Eric Thomas. He was once homeless but is now a multi millionaire. I have taken my faviourite quotes from this short video that I can relate too and I believe that the students will as well such as this: ‘I don’t do well in math, your right. You ain’t never studied. I’m not good at writing, because you have never written before. Most of you won’t be successful because when you’re studying and you get tired, you quit. (Eric Thomas - How Bad Do You Want It, 2013) I end the assembly by saying that I often listen to Eric Thomas because when I do it makes me feel inspired and motivates me. The task I then set my House is to think about what motivates them individually and use that the next time they feel like procrastinating for a day to avoid school work.

This is a really fun assembly that students love. The start of the assembly shows the cover of the song "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)“ by Baz Luhrman. I explain to the group that this song made number 1 in 1999 and was one of my favourite songs whilst at school. The whole song is centred around someone giving life advice. I then play the song and show a picture that details of the advice given in the song. I then move onto the next part of the assembly. This requires some preparation. You need to ask staff to send pictures of themself from their school years and insert this into the presentation. I then show pictures of member of staff and ask the students who they think it is. This normally gets a great laugh. Once I have been through all of the pictures my message is that as staff we often give lots of advice and sometimes students feel that we are nagging or getting at them. The message is that as staff, we have all made the mistakes that you are going to make so use us and trust us when we offer advice.

This assembly has two clear sections. The first is a link to Susan Boyle's audition for Britain's Got Talent. A picture is shown of Susan and I ask the group firstly who she is and then does she look like a pop star? I then use the link to show her audition. During the audition Ant and Dec say 'I bet you weren't expecting that'. When the audition finishes I ask the group why weren't you expecting her to not have an amazing voice? The second section of the audition requires some preparation. You need four bags of walker crisps. You have to carefully open each bag at the bottom and swap the flavours into different bags. I normally put ready salted into a cheese and onion bag and then salt and vinegar in prawn cocktail. You then selotape the two bags you will use in the assembly up so that they look like have been unopened. I then ask for a volunteer and blindfold them whilst doing a blind taste. When the volunteer say, what appears, to be the wrong flavours I then reveal what I have done. My message from both sections of the assembly is to not always follow the crowd. Sometimes other people's opinions are not always yours. Never read a book by its over until you have explored it for yourself.

This assembly is based around the rumour mill that exists in schools. The first part of the assembly is an imitation of a game on celebrity juice. It requires 3 members of staff to be stood in line with ear phones in and their music on full volume. Behind the staff are three extracts from celeb gossip mags. The idea is for you to read out one piece of gossip and then for the staff to pass this down the line. The message will get lost through the loud music and lip reading. This is repeated 3 times. I then show a picture of a puppeteer and explain how people can twist information to create a situation for their own benefit and that unless a person has heard or seen something for them self to not always believe it.

This assembly focuses on the prospect of relying in the lottery, lucky charms or Mystic Meg to predict our future and rely on to be a success. The first part of the assembly is a clip of a euro lottery draw. I ask the staff to fill out their numbers before the assembly with slips for the euro draw. The staff will not win the lottery (hopefully!). I then move on to the use of lucky charms and then onto star signs and Mystic Meg by reading out staff star signs. The key message is that we cannot rely on luck or anything else apart from our own hard work.

The assembly is centered around students not relying on lady luck and creating their own futures. The first section of the assembly is a euro millions draw. I have attached an amended lottery ticket that can be used for this. I either give each student a ticket or each member of staff. Once the draw has finsihed (hopefully) no one should have won the jackpot. I then go on to say that we cannot therefore on the lottery in the future. The next section is a number of star signs that I have taken from Mystic Meg. I enter in staff names at the top of each page and predict their futures. This normally gets a good laugh from the students and I finish on the point that these things are really unlikely and simply guesswork. The assembly finished with a summary about lucky charms that people may use but actually. Luck is something you create through hard work.
